|RadioShack Raises More Than $12 Million for Fight Against Cancer|
RadioShack Marks World Cancer Day With Contribution to LIVESTRONG
Fort Worth, Texas, Feb. 2, 2012 -- In observation for the upcoming annual World Cancer Day on Feb. 4, RadioShack Corp. announced a substantial increase in its total contributions to LIVESTRONG, reaching a yearly total of $5.7 million in 2011. RadioShack, in association with its customers and suppliers, has contributed more than $12 million since 2009 in support of programs and services by LIVESTRONG, the foundation that serves people affected by cancer and empowers them to take action against the world's leading cause of death.
RadioShack's contributions to LIVESTRONG result from a combination of customer donations at the point of sale in its company-operated stores and dealer locations nationwide, direct corporate donations and sales of LIVESTRONG-branded products, including the iconic yellow LIVESTRONG wristband. LIVESTRONG is the Company's primary philanthropic partner.
LIVESTRONG is the brand of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, created in 1997 by the cancer survivor and champion cyclist to serve people living with cancer. The foundation specializes in patient navigation services that help cancer survivors and their families overcome the insurance, financial, emotional and practical challenges that accompany a cancer diagnosis.
"Millions of our customers supported LIVESTRONG last year and I would personally like to thank them, as well as our associates, for their support," said Jim Gooch, president and chief executive officer for RadioShack Corp. "It's a privilege to work side-by-side with the LIVESTRONG team in their efforts to powerfully touch the lives of people fighting and beating cancer every day."
"RadioShack is a valued partner in our mission to inspire and empower people affected by cancer," said Doug Ulman, LIVESTRONG president and CEO. "We are grateful to RadioShack and the thousands of customers who made a difference through their direct contributions and the purchase of LIVESTRONG-branded products."
Customers who shop at RadioShack's 4,400-plus company-operated stores and participating dealer locations can contribute directly to LIVESTRONG by making a $1, $5 or $10 donation with their purchase or by buying a LIVESTRONG-branded product, including the yellow wristband.
In January, RadioShack introduced two exciting new exclusive products in association with LIVESTRONG, OtterBox® and Monster. Like the iconic yellow LIVESTRONG wristband, these products provide a simple yet exciting new way for people to visibly join in the global fight against cancer. See radioshack.com or your nearby store for more information. A portion of the proceeds from the purchase of these and other LIVESTRONG products available at RadioShack benefit the Austin-based foundation.
